Hamid Razi has over 21 (twenty five) years experience in the world of oriental and Persian
rugs. His career began in Iran, as a second generation craftsman and weaver, in the field of
Oriental, Persian rugs and restoration. This is where he learned all of the trade of Oriental
antique rugs, cleaning and restoration. His family has greatly contributed to the advancement
of the art of Persian rug weaving, cleaning and restoration. Furthermore, he is a reputed
Master Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America in New York where he obtained
his GIA certified appraiser.
Mr. Hamid Razi has a love for rugs and is particularly skillful in the profession of restoring
oriental rugs and in this capacity he is frequently invited to international expositions around
the world. Mr. Razi has taught this field of fine art on Television, LA Home Shopping and to
vocational schools, and has trained numerous rug weavers and experts through his workshop in
Los Angeles, California and Houston, Texas.
Mr. Razi has extensive knowledge in the field of oriental fine rugs. He has owned and still
operates his own Rug Gallery in Toronto, New York and California in addition to his large Rug
Cleaning factory in Los Angeles, California which specialize in Rug Repair and Restoration.
Areas of Expertise include Antique Oriental Rugs, European Tapestries, Islamic and Far
Eastern Rugs.
Hamid Razi has had the opportunity to experience a travel experience to the primary source
of production of wool through New Zealand and Australia to see how wool travels from the
sheep to the rugs they clean for their customers.
Cleaning problems with rugs stem from their construction, dyes, after-market treatments, pre-
existing conditions and the effects of cleaning on the texture of the face yarns. The ability to
correctly identify commonly encountered rugs is a component of a cleaner’s product
knowledge that is essential to a successful business
